Firstly, The Philippines would like to convey our deep appreciation to the Organizing Committee of the China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) for their kind gesture of considering the Philippines as its Partner for CIFIT 2020 and CIFIT 2021.

That said ... The Philippines and China share a long and rich history steeped in both culture and trade.

中菲两国在文化和经贸领域合作都由来已久。

The oldest Chinatown in the world is in Binondo (a district in Manila), which in the earliest written records, was established sometime in 1594.

世界上有记载的最早的唐人街是比诺多，是马尼拉的一个区，始建于1594年。

It was believed that Binondo was already a hub of Chinese commerce even before the Spanish colonial period. By the time the Spanish arrived, Chinese businessmen controlled all the trading and commercial activities, serving as retailers, artisans, and providers of food for various Spanish settlements.

人们认为比诺多早在西班牙殖民时期就已经是中国商业的中心。当西班牙殖民时期开始，中国商人基本控制了所有的贸易和商业活动，掌控着当地零售业、工匠行业和食品供应行业等。

Nowadays, most Filipino-Chinese are second or third generation, natural-born Philippine citizens who still look back to their Chinese roots and have relatives in China.

The Philippines are Good Business Partners !

In 2019, China was ranked as the Philippines' top trading partner, our 3rd biggest export market, and our top import source. Total bilateral trade between our two countries was valued at US$35.3B. Philippine exports to China grew by 11.32%, from US$8.8B in 2018 to US$9.8B in 2019. Likewise, Philippine imports from China increased by 15.81%, from US$22.0B in 2018 to US$25.5B in 2019.

Ethnic Chinese entrepreneurs are estimated to control 60 to 70 percent of the Philippine economy. Filipino Chinese control many of the Philippines' largest and most lucrative department store chains, supermarkets, hotels, shopping malls, airlines and fast-food restaurants in addition to all the major financial services corporations, banks and stock brokerage firms, and they dominate the nation's wholesale distribution networks, shipping, banking, construction, textiles, real estate, personal computer, semiconductors, pharmaceutical, media, and industrial manufacturing industries. In 2015, the top four wealthiest people in the Philippines were ethnic Chinese.

In terms of industry distribution, ethnic Chinese firms account for a third of the Filipino industrial manufacturing sector.

Filipino Chinese have always dominated the Philippine financial services sector and have been in the banking sector since the early part of the 20th century. The majority of the country's principal banks are majority owned by Filipino Chinese shareholders, There are also 23 Chinese-owned insurance companies, with some branches overseas and in Hong Kong.

There are 12 Filipino Chinese families engaged in inter-island transport and shipping, Likewise, Filipino Chinese own all of the major airlines of the Philippines, including the flagship carrier Philippine Airlines, AirphilExpress, Cebu Pacific, South East Asian Airlines, Manila Air and Zest Air.

菲律宾有12个华人家庭从事岛际运输和航运，菲律宾华人拥有菲律宾所有主要航空公司，包括旗舰航空公司菲律宾航空公司、AirphilExpress、宿务太平洋航空公司、东南亚航空公司、马尼拉航空公司和Zest Air。

Last 2 September, the Philippines held a Webinar Partner Philippines: Opportunities for Growing Business in coordination with China ASEAN Business Council (CABC). It was estimated that at least 200 attended the said Event online.

Last 3 September, the Philippines together with GSMA China, jointly held a Webinar on Philippine Startup and Investments. The Webinar tackled the Innovation and Investment Ecosystem in The Philippines & China.

On the 9th of September, in the afternoon, the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) in cooperation with 86Links and the ASEAN-China Center (ACC), will be holding an Event called Partner Philippines: Industrial Parks Forum.

On 10 September, we will be holding the 2nd China-Philippines Agricultural Investment Cooperation Forum (CIFIT 2020). This is the second collaboration the Office of the Agriculture Counselor has with the Foreign Economic Cooperation Center (FECC) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA). The first forum was conducted in Nanning along the sidelines of CAEXPO on September 2019.

As soon as the Quarantine Restrictions on the Philippines and China are relaxed, the Philippines intends to send several high level Official and Business Delegations to China. 菲律宾将继续参加中国的主要国家级贸易博览会等活动：中国国际服务贸易博览会(CIFTIS)，中国国际进口博览会(CIIE)以及东盟博览会。

We are confident that our existing good relations with the ASEAN-China Center (ACC), China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and other esteemed Chinese partner Organizations will see a future increase Philippines -China Trade and Investment Opportunity Forums and/or Webinars in the near future as well.

Finally, the Philippines would like to reiterate that our most friendly relationship began to bloom with President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s first visit to Beijing in 2016, a pivot based on the Philippine government’s move for a more independent policy-making and direction-setting to benefit the Filipino people.

最后，菲律宾要重申，随着罗德里戈•罗亚•杜特尔特总统2016年首次访华，我们的友好的关系开始蓬勃发展，这是基于菲律宾政府为造福菲律宾人民而采取的更加独立的决策和方向制定的举措。

Similarly, under the increasing connectivity brought by China’s Belt & Road initiative, we’re confident that the already-booming trade and investment relationship of the Philippines and China will further grow.

This will also assure a continuously functioning manufacturing supply chain for these investments even as it would suits the China+1 strategy being adopted by most companies.

What’s more, the Philippines offers a domestic market of 110M people and an ASEAN market that is more than 600M people.
